We played seven songs on Nov. 17, 2010 at the Boulder Theatre. Here they are:

On Thursday we did a little skating. John worked while Nate and I rode the Boulder park. Then we all went to the Longmont park and the miniramp in the back of Sol Skateboards skateshop.

Here’s some photos of the spots:

On the way back from the Boulder park, Nate and I were feeling a little loopy and started skating a playground. A few minutes later, we had filmed a whole video part:

The show

November 18, 2010

The last time The Achievement played together was June 2009. Then on Tuesday we practiced our songs a couple times in a basement. So, it only made sense that the next thing we did would be a show in a giant theater on a huge stage in front of more than 400 people.

In the lobby, there are framed black and white photos of artists who have played the Boulder Theatre. BB King. Public Enemy. Mike Watt. It was all a little intimidating.

But whatever. We had a blast. Once we started, it was just like any Achievement show. A short set with a couple false starts, a forgotten note or two, a couple jokes and good times.

The rest of the night was skate videos celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Meta Skateboards, then more bands: The Cold North, Black Sleep of Kali and Speedwolf.

Here’s some photos:

Priority #1

November 17, 2010

Although the main mission of a band is to play music, The Achievement has always enforced a skate first, rock second policy.

Today we checked in at the Rock Creek mini ramp and the amazing Broomfield park.

Colorado day one

November 16, 2010

We’re a lucky band. People are nice to us.

Like today, when Gordon offered up his basement and equipment so we could practice before tomorrow’s show. This guy only knew John, had never met Nate or me, and he was the most gracious host ever. And as a bonus, his gear is super nice. Nate played a sweet custom-built drum set, I played through one of the most amazing amps I’ve ever touched.

It reminded me of the last time we did this, a little music excursion where we show up with nothing but our guitars, and our pals The Anchor from Austin let us play through their super nice Orange amps for two nights in a row. Then let us sleep on their floor. Nice people. We’re lucky.

We’re also lucky that the weather in Denver defied predictions and was downright balmy. We skated some jersey barriers and a park in Denver in t-shirts when the weather report called for a high of 40.

Here’s some random photos from today:

We are playing a show!

November 13, 2010

OK, so John lives in Colorado now and is part owner of this skateboard shop that is turning ten years old and having a big party, so Nate and Scott are flying from California to play at this party, which will have a few other bands and three skateboard videos.

It’s in a big fancy venue in Boulder. It’s all ages, costs $8 and you can buy tickets here.

It’s going to be cold in Boulder so if you have a mini ramp in your living room please invite us over.

Here’s the flyer:

The last time The Achievement played was June 26, 2009, at a house show in Santa Cruz for Scott’s bachelor party. The party was all about getting friends together to play music, and some wonderful folks offered up their living room when a venue fell though last minute.
